The Imray Pilot & exploring Mallorca,
The trouble I have found with entering these mini guides is that exploring The Balearic islands by sea has been so well documented & photographed by those way more qualified than me that apart from the odd lucky photo I capture there is little I can offer by way of fresh genuine information.
The Imray Balearic Pilot is the main way I germinate an idea to explore somewhere new. I am graduating from the The Shell (English) channel Pilot & the Imray Islas Baleares pilot has opened 3+ complete islands worth of armchair, pipe dreams (No smoke involved) & combined with a decent fire (smoke involved) are 1 of the few ways that help pass the winter months.
So to add my twaddle to the pile I will endeavour to detail the minutiae of the Mallorcian coast & in particular the coast around Alcuduia & Pollenca bays in North East Mallorca. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the world. In my opinion equal to an undeveloped Koh Samui or the anchorage at Studland bay in Dorset. Cap Formentor begins the journey Formentor beach comes next, (Is this Antigua ?) past Puerto Pollenca & Club Nautico; leave the kite surfers & sometime rotting seaweed to Starboard. Baraces, Manresa & a wonderful walkable stretch up to BonAire are next. Keep on past the rocky headlands with their goats, small coves & beaches to the coolest golf course at Alcanada (Im no golfer) & 1 of the best resturants I know. Pass base & onto the sweeping white sand beach of Alcudia bay ~ our home port.
I will try to mark some land based beauties & pleasures, I have made some small start in sailing, swimming, snorkelling, Windsurfing, & SUPing (Stand up paddle boarding) around Mallorca Menorca & Ibiza swallowing much salt water in the last 35 years. I am also 1 of the few stupid enough to be out there at Midday in July or Dawn/Dusk in November -and if lucky I may be able to offer something half way original. Feb 2016.
