Pollenca bay in Alcudia Mallorca

Armed with a couple of Stand up paddle boards on the North side of the Peninsular of Victoria we are in Pollenca Bay 1 up from Alcudia to explore & check the entrance to Marina Manrese near Bon Aire or the tiny enclave of fishing boats at Barcares. Would I get a 8M folding Trimaran drawing in there?

One of the tricks to cruising & exploring on a SUP round here is to get the sea breeze right. So head upwind whilst its morning & glass then come back with what may turn out to be a tidy little down-winder; do consider though this is the Med not Maui. Paddling round the little inlets of this area is some of the best its all micro world inlet to inlet the bottom changes constantly from inches deep over rocks & coral to steep to dropping right away. There is the odd fishing line from the odd fisherman onshore to avoid & not very many fish to see as they have eaten them all. Other than that there is nobody around apart from us.

We come round to the smaller – ill call it a harbour – Baracares a sleepy fishing enclave I intelligently ignore what is actually a well buoyed channel & cut between a rock on the South side in about 6 inches – enough for a fin to get the board out? The entrance is about 8-10 foot wide. The bottom is all chains mud & crab scuttling around; messy but not dirty.

Its early April most boats are still chocked up outside their owners houses but its warm & a good day for the ancient Mallorcian mariner to varnish his mast in the sun.
