Yacht charter Mallorca, anchorage at Avenzada castle & Puerto Pollenca.

The Anchorage at Avanzada castle near Puerto Pollenca.
A Mallorca charter from our bases in Alcudia or Pollenca makes for the best departure point, find good sailing, beautiful, often peaceful & sometimes uncrowded surroundings in North Mallorca & the Balearic Islands the best place to rent a yacht in Mallorca.
The pilot books will provide detailed info for the anchorages in Pollenca & Avenzada Castle but as usual I will endeavour to deal with the minutiae of the Mallorquian coast.
The main anchorage North East of Puerto Pollenca & The Club Nautico makes a varied stop off for a visiting charter yacht, looking for a bit of understated civilisation. Or indeed start your sailing holiday from Club Nautico aboard our pristine Jeanneau 33i.
Sheltered from North East Mallorca’s prevailing winds by the town & mountains behind. The streets of holiday town Pollenca thin out to a pleasant hewn stone paseo. Initially the usual seaside beachfront with mini pine sheltered beaches, then further on to a residential area on the sea front with one solitary hotel restaurant at Albercuix. I have never tried it but looks ok; quite swish, buzzy & nicely understated.
Here the small patches of sand get smaller & less crowded; a fine place to dinghy ashore and swim in protected sometimes very shallow crystal waters. As you reach the Northerly end of the paseo you run into the fenced off military zone where the “Hidros” berth. (Fire fighting sea planes) Again a great sight to see practicing their hazardous occupation. They are a vital part of the locale & despite periodic noise a positive & magnificent addition.
On the other (East) side of the base & landing area protrudes Punta de la Avanzada & the old Fortaleza castle. (This figured as The Night Manager Mallorca castle in the TV series as did several local resturants) again all best accessed by yacht. There are buoys here & the anchorage is well worth a lunch stop or longer, great for a dingy or stand up paddle exploration around the pine fringed aromatic shore.
These are places best accessed by sea so please rent a boat & see Sailing Mallorca at its best.
